A STUDY OF BLUE
From midnight navy to dusty teal, blue remains one of the most evocative colours in interior design. At Sanct, we return to it again and again. Not just for its calming quality, but for the way it quietly anchors a space. Here, we explore four bedrooms where blue becomes the central character. Each one offers a unique mood, material palette, and sense of stillness.
For a more traditional take, this bedroom blends classic joinery and warm wood panelling with tailored blue accessories. The tartan cushions and plaid ottomans bring texture and symmetry, this is blue used as a supporting act. Elegant, understated, and timeless.

Here, a cooler slate blue brings stillness to the room, while an oxblood leather headboard and abstract art inject boldness and depth. This bedroom is a masterclass in balance: masculine and soft, contemporary but with vintage nods. The saturated ceiling adds architectural interest, a design trick we, Sanct interiors Cardiff, often use in rooms with high ceilings or heritage cornicing.

One of our recent projects pairs deep blues with warm natural textures to create a cocooning retreat. We kept the original wooden bed and crafted the scheme around it —layering in geometric cushions, chocolate brown leathers, and a check throw with oversized tassels for softness and movement. Framed by rich velvet curtains and grounded by wool carpet, the room balances farmhouse honesty with a more refined, tailored edge.

Here blue walls with heritage panelling meet rust toned linen. The wall colour (think Farrow & Ball De Nimes or Oval Room Blue) draws light in from the sash windows, while earthy textiles and sculptural artwork offer rich contrast. It's elegant, quiet, and deeply restful. A mood board favourite for those drawn to modern heritage style.
